Description

One can joke all they want about subtle differences between Superbirds, which were all batch-built in late 1969 to legalize parts for NASCAR superspeedway racing under option Code A13, but this unique car has a lot going for it. The color it wears is Chrysler-Plymouth's well-known EB5 Blue Fire Metallic, but this car also has an odometer reading of 30,805 miles and is being offered on a Pennsylvania actual-mile title. More than that, it is a factory V-Code 6-BBL Superbird, listed as No. 831 in the NASCAR Superbird Registry.

The car is powered by a matching-numbers 440 CI 6-BBL V-8 engine, coded as E87 on the fender tag. This engine cost a premium over the standard Super Commando 4-barrel version, but most owners found it well worth the expense. Selecting Code A36 meant the A727 3-speed TorqueFlite, with the automatic transmission here accompanied by the optional floor shifter. Heavy-duty cooling, power steering, power brakes with front discs and Hemi suspension parts and frame were also part of the Superbird.

The Blue Fire paint is complemented by a black vinyl top and white Plymouth callout lettering. Of course, the Warner Bros.-licensed Road Runner icons are on the wing uprights, headlight door and interior locations like the steering wheel center. Inside the black interior are the desirable bucket seats and lighted C16 console with chrome shifter arm, wood-grain trim accenting, the factory AM radio and a dash layout with the 150 MPH speedometer and Tic-Toc-Tach. There is the special Voice of Road Runner horn underhood, while the hood pins are functional to hold the special hood down. The final touches on this car are the five-spoke styled road wheels wearing correct Goodyear Polyglas F70x14 raised white-letter tires.
